Chamber of Commerce

Location:

Jeddah, Saudi Arabia

Date:

2012

Type:

Public Building

Awarded first runner-up in a prestigious design competition, this proposal for a Chamber of Commerce in Saudi Arabia masterfully synthesizes regional heritage with contemporary institutional grandeur. The architectural language is defined by a monolithic distinctiveness, utilizing textured local stone to anchor the structure within its desert context.

A key design feature is the reinterpretation of traditional Islamic geometric patterns, which are intricately carved into the stone facade and utilized as louvers to provide essential shading from the harsh sun. The building’s massing contrasts rigid rectangular volumes with a prominent cylindrical auditorium, creating a dynamic skyline silhouette. Inside, the experience is centered around a monumental atrium bathed in natural light, featuring a sculptural glass installation that emphasizes verticality. This project stands as a dignified symbol of economic stability, offering a climate-responsive design that honors the past while facilitating modern business.
